There’s something about Christmas which makes everyone feel joyful. With the cheery music, twinkling lights and abundance of mince pies, what’s not to like? It’s the time when families come together, loved ones unite and everyone feels merry and jolly.
However, after months of uncertainty and yet more plans being cancelled, you’d be forgiven for struggling to feel Christmassy this year. You want to get in the festive spirit, but where to start? There are plenty of activities you can do to feel jollier, including upgrading your Christmas decorations, doing your Christmas shopping, and taking the kids to see Santa’s grotto. Read on for some suggestions on how to get in the festive spirit this year.
1. Visit local attractions
Find out what Christmas activities are going on in your local area or nearby. If there’s a Christmas market near you, get some friends together and have a festive day out. Check out the stalls for local ornaments and sample lots of good food. Don’t forget to enjoy a cup or two of mulled wine while you’re there!
Go for a skate around the ice rink or visit a Christmas tree farm. If you have children or younger siblings why not take them to see a Christmas grotto or a nativity play? It’ll be a fun day out for everyone and the perfect way to get the whole family feeling jolly.
2. Send your Christmas cards early
Everyone enjoys getting a Christmas card and sending them to your loved ones is a great way to get in the festive spirit. If you send them their Merry Christmas cards earlier than usual, you’ll start spreading the joy of Christmas sooner, plus you’ll avoid those inevitable postal delays!
Add a touch of sentimental value to your season’s greetings, with unique, personalised Christmas cards. It’s always heart-warming to receive a card or Christmas gift which is clearly made for you, and your friends and family will be touched by the special effort you’ve gone to.
3. Go shopping in person
While online shopping is fast and convenient, consider skipping the Amazon checkout this time and go old-school to buy christmas jumpers. There’s something special about going shopping around Christmas time, and the seasonal window displays, and Christmas tunes are sure to put you in the festive spirit.
Often in the weeks leading up to December 25th, you’ll find new and exciting vendors on the street. Take the opportunity to try the roasted chestnuts, freshly baked gingerbread, and a sample of cherry brandy. You might even find the perfect gift amongst your tastings!
