No matter what you may think or what others may tell you, there are so many eco friendly changes that can be made in every single home in the world when the goal is to go green. The only problem is the lack of knowledge or interest when looking at the homeowner. According to Excel Builders, going green is not as difficult as most people think. Every single homeowner can make changes. All that is really necessary is interest. This is why we should highlight these really simple changes to make your home green:
1. Changing Household Cleaners
The number of household cleaners that are now using green cleaning products is constantly growing. With this in mind, if the one that you use at the moment is using harsh chemicals, you need to look for someone else. At the same time, if you clean your home alone, all you have to do is look for the household cleaning solutions that are completely green.
Plant based products are going to be preferred. Always read labels and if you hire cleaners, check the products that are used to be sure your wishes are respected.
2. Sustainably-Raised Meat
Sustainability is not something that is clearly designed by meat manufacturers but it is one thing that you are really interested in. You want to be sure that you always look for green products in your home. This does include meat and food in general.
When you are shopping for sustainably-raised meat, you avoid the use of antibiotics and hormones in home growing. The good news is there are labels that are added to the products that are environmentally friendly. Shop for those.
3. Upgrade Insulation
When you add insulation to your home you are going to prevent leaky walls, doors, windows and ducts. That will improve the energy draw of practically any home by close to 30%. Obviously, completely redoing home insulation can be quite expensive.
If this is your problem, you can try the thermal shades that are going to block the sun and will retain heat. Other options are also available. Research those that you can use in your home to improve insulation.
4. Donate Clothes
Statistics show that one clothing item that is donated makes up for around 27 carbon emission pounds being reduced. This happens as new clothes are not being produced. So many clothes can be donated as they are in a good condition instead of having them go towards landfills.
You can so easily take the items to the thrift stores or even to charities that are accepting donations. You simply protect the environment when you do that.
5. Reduce Pesticide Use
In order to control the pests that enter your home you need to first think about prevention. Unfortunately, most homeowners just use bug sprays or pesticides as they see the bugs in their homes. A much better option would be to bug-proof your entire home. This means you will no longer have to utilize the harmful chemicals since pests will not really have a way in.
