White furniture is all the rage these days. Whilst it makes for a clean living space with precise lines, it can come with its own drawbacks. Sure, white furniture will go with anything, but when it gets dirty? Everyone notices.
The bright white that brings so many of its strengths also means that grime and mess stand out like a lighthouse.
When it comes to a white TV unit, this dirt is magnified. By hosting the TV, this is an area of your house that people will look at. Therefore, you want it to be presentable – namely, clean.
TVs can attract a lot of dust, cup stains and general mess. To keep is looking spic and span, there are a few options available to you.
1. Use the right products
You may have a whole range of cleaning products that you use in your home, but considering the TV unit is white, you should avoid some.
For stains, bleach is often most people’s first thought. But can you use bleach on a white TV unit? The answer isn’t so simple. While bleach does work on most things, it won’t help your white furniture to use it on beverage stains. Bleach can attack the brightness of the white colour. However, the exception to this rule is tea and coffee, which bleach will work on.
2. Look out for mildew
For white TV units, mildew is the biggest worry. Mildew, which often can be found in TV units, regardless of colour, can weaken the structural material of units, damaging your furniture. Due to the white colour of your TV unit, mildew will show up more obviously.
This is good because you’ll be able to catch it earlier. However, it’s also bad because if you don’t clean it, it’ll stick out like a sore thumb.
Luckily, there’s an easy and natural solution to mildew: vinegar! Diluted vinegar only needs to be applied to the surface of the mildew to remove it.
With a simple solution, it should be no problem keeping your white TV unit clean and safe.
3. Get rid of dust
TV units are susceptible to dust. And with a white TV unit, this dust will show up more than ever.
When cleaning your TV unit, you want to do a regular dust of all areas. You can buy dusters, but often an eco-cloth is a better way forward, as it allows you to get into all the nooks and crannies.
4. Say goodbye to water stains
As we discussed earlier, some products can’t be used on beverage stains when you have a white TV unit. So, how can you get rid of them? Well, one nifty trick suggests using toothpaste on water stains can dry them out and remove them. Make sure not to use gel toothpaste, though, as it won’t work!
Parting Shot
There is no one way to clean your TV unit. Several factors can affect it – how big your TV unit is, how many delicate parts there are. However, you should envelop these tips into your routine to keep your white TV unit looking as clean and bright as possible.
